Dan Fletcher is working with Melanie Ott (Gladstone/UCSF) on the development of a Coronavirus point-of-care Cas13-based assay for direct viral RNA detection. The device is built around Fletcher’s CellScope-based fluorescence microscopy system and is designed to go from nasal swab to diagnosis in about 15min. Dan says the assay is in the prototyping phase, but initial results are encouraging.
